The minister for Kampala Beti Olive Namisango Kamya yesterday survived being beaten to pulp by rowdy vendors at Wandegeya market who blamed her for not solving their problems.
She was saved by the police who later arrested those who wanted to cause fracas in the market.
Vendors claimed that they have raised their issues many times but KCCA had failed to address them.
Addressing the vendors, Kamya blamed Kampala Capital City Authority for failing to settle the issues of vendors.
Kamya said she is aware of the issues affecting vendors and cited some of the challenges.
“The size of the market, the design of the market, the structure of the building, the politics in the market, and the inefficiency of KCCA,” she said.
Kamya advised the vendors to refrain from politics stating that politicians have come out to politicise their issues .
“I will get an independent person to do an audit of the people who were actually allocated slots in this market,” Kamya said.
She explained that the allocation of slots has not done fairly. She also pledged to set up a committee to investigate the controversies of the market and come up with the report in one month.
