Quiin Abenakyo to receive a lifetime achievement award

Miss World Africa 2018 Quiin Abenakyo is set to be honoured with a Twegaite lifetime achievement award in New York for her ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ project fighting teenage pregnancies and representing Uganda on the global stage.

The event happens every two years in the USA to promote Busoga culture. This year’s event is themed ‘A Bridge To The Future – Empowering Busoga And Beyond’.

Quiin, herself from the Mayuge district in the Busoga Kingdom, made history as the first contestant from Uganda to make it into the top five at a Miss World final. A place which earned her the title of Miss World Africa 2018.

Since then, Quinn has received government backing for her ‘Keep the Child in School’ project, which aims to empower young girls by keeping them in school to preventing teenage pregnancies and promoting humanitarian projects for the most disadvantaged.

Most recently, Quiin launched the ‘Light Up A Home’campaign by the Miss Uganda Foundation to increase electricity supply to 10,000 homes in rural Uganda.

A spokesperson from Twegaite said: “We are very proud of Quiin’s accomplishments and would like to recognise her with the Twegaite Achievement award for her graceful representation of the Busoga culture all over the world.”

Past recipients include former Miss Uganda Leah Kalanguka and the Rt Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Speaker of Parliament for the Republic of Uganda.

The conference takes place from 24 – 27 May.
